Community Engagement

On a college or university campus, there are two levels of the community to connect with -- the campus community and the larger community, beyond the campus. Students are encouraged to participate in their communities and take advantage of service learning opportunities. Students in college have unique opportunities to learn from the surrounding community while making meaningful contributions to citizen-led initiatives. Applying concepts and theories from class to real world situations is an extremely effective way to comprehend and retain course material.

Consider researching or joining any of the following in your community:

  • University/College Student Organizations
  • Club/Community Sports Teams
  • Community Service Groups
  • Neighborhood Associations
  • Community Gardens
  • Homeless Shelters
  • Senior Centers/Orphanages
  • Leagues of Women Voters
  • Chambers of Commerce
  • Non-Profit Organizations
